New Delhi, March 1 (IANS) A 32-year-old man has been arrested here for allegedly cheating a student of Rs.230,000 that was paid for securing admission and arranging a visa for his studies overseas, the police said. Vijay Shrivastava was arrested on the complaint of Deepak Goyal, who had approached him after reading a newspaper advertisement offering help for hassle-free trips abroad.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Delhi) Ajay Chaudhry said Shrivastava sealed a Rs.700,000 deal with the victim for arranging his studies in Switzerland and helping complete documentary formalities.
“Shrivastava took a total of Rs.230,000 in three instalments and ran away. He was arrested after raids,” Chaudhry said, adding that the accused was being interrogated to find out if he had cheated other students before.
