Man held for Aligarh admission racket
June 20th, 2010 - 10:12 pm ICT by IANSAligarh, June 20 (IANS) A private coaching centre employee was arrested here for his alleged involvement in a racket in which students were charged Rs.4-6 lakhs for admission to prestigious colleges, police said Sunday.
The accused, Ranjeet Kumar, who works for a Kanpur-based coaching centre, was caught by Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) officials, an AMU public relation officer (PRO) told IANS.
Kumar, along with other members of his gang, used to plant fake candidates in admission tests to various colleges, the PRO said.
A rate list found in his possession showed that the gang charged Rs.400,000 to Rs.600,000 candidates aspiring for admission in prestigious colleges, the PRO said.
Three cell phones, four SIM cards, fake currency, photographs of 14 youths, marksheets and certificates was also found in his possession, he added.
Accordng to Kumar, the head of the gang is Rohit who runs a admission racket through a coaching centre in Kanpur.
After being caught by AMU officials Kumar was handed over to police Saturday night, the PRO said.
