Man gets 10-year jail term for raping minor
September 9th, 2009 - 9:54 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Sep 9 (IANS) A city court Wednesday sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping an eight-year-old girl.
Additional Sessions Judge Shailender Kaur held Kartar Singh guilty of raping a minor and also imposed a fine of Rs.6,000 apart from the jail term.
The court relied on the testimony of the girl and her parents to nail the accused.
The victim, a Class 3 student, said in her statement before the court that Singh, who was her neighbour, had called her to the rooftop of his house June 24, 2001, on the pretext of offering chocolates and then sexually assaulted her.
The prosecution relied on 15 witnesses to prove the charges against Singh.
