Man burdened by debt poisons family

Bhubaneswar, July 5 (IANS) A man consumed food mixed with poison and fed it to his wife and three children since he was burdened by debt. While the couple died, their children are battling for life in Orissa’s Ganjam district, local media reported Saturday. Ashok Kumar Prusty, 45, ran an eatery in Polsara town, about 114 km from the state capital here. He had taken a number of loans and was unable to repay them.

On Thursday night, he laced a curry with poison and consumed it along with his wife Damayanti, 40, daughters Srima, 15, Reshma, 14, and son Amrut, 11, Oriya daily The Samaja reported Saturday.

While Ashok and Damayanti died, their children are in critical condition at the Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) Medical College Hospital at Berhampur.
