New Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS) A man who was allegedly the main supplier of spurious liquor that claimed 26 lives in west and southwest Delhi in March has been arrested, police said Thursday.
Sukhbir, 37, was arrested by the Crime Branch Aug 31 and then taken into remand for three days. Delhi Police got his custody Thursday.

“He is the kingpin of the network involved in trade and supply of spurious liquor that led to many deaths in Dabri, Khayala and Rajouri Garden in March,” a police official said.

Police have arrested 12 people in this case so far.

“It was the interrogation of nine persons previously arrested that led to Sukhbir’s arrest. They told us that the spurious liquor of ‘Shokeen’ brand, which resulted in this tragedy, was manufactured in Gurgaon and was supplied to Delhi from there,” the official said.

Police had raided a premise in Sector-9 of Gurgaon May 11 and arrested two brothers allegedly involved in the racket and they revealed that they supply the liquor through Sukhbir.

Raids were also conducted in Ahmedabad, Moradabad, Ajmer and Agra to arrest Sukbir, but he had managed to evade police.

During the course of investigation, police also recovered spurious liquor of ‘Shokeen’ brand from a place near the Najafgarh Kakrola drain.
