Man arrested for murdering woman, granddaughter
April 10th, 2011 - 8:29 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 10 (IANS) A man was arrested in east Delhi for murdering a 60-year-old woman and her teenaged granddaughter over a financial matter involving the woman’s son, police said Sunday.
Dinesh Sharma, 37, was arrested Saturday near Karkardooma community centre while his brother and accomplice Vicky Sharma is absconding, police said.
Police said Dinesh and Vicky were distantly related to victim Krishna Devi. They killed Devi and her grand-daughter Nancy April 2 in Nihal Vihar in west Delhi.
Dinesh had failed to repay a loan taken from Devi’s son Satyapal. He and his son went to the victim’s home while Devi’s son was out of town with his wife.
“Dinesh failed to payback the loan and decided to take back the papers of the loan agreement. But when Devi refused to give the papers, the duo strangled her and Nancy,” said a police officer.
The incident was witnessed by Devi’s another granddaughter Easha, 9, who escaped and bolted herself in a room. She later told the police about the incident, police said.
