Man accused of killing landlord’s son dies in Lucknow jail
December 7th, 2008 - 7:49 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Dec 7 (IANS) A man, accused of killing his landlord’s son for ransom and then packing the body in suitcase that was dumped in the luggage van of a train, died in the Lucknow district jail, an official said Sunday.The police claimed that Ajit Singh, 36, died of a heart attack late Saturday evening and a post-mortem examination was being conducted to ascertain the exact cause of his death.
Singh, along with his wife Sunita and two-year old son, lived in Ashiana locality of Lucknow as tenants in the house of Ramesh for the past one year.
Ramesh had got a huge amount of money after the Lucknow Development Authority acquired his land.
“In a bid to get a huge ransom, the couple murdered his (Ramesh’s) 7-year-old son Akshay and after packing the body in a suitcase, dumped it in the luggage van of the Varanasi bound passenger train on Nov 18,” said police spokesperson Ghulam Abbas.
Sunita was arrested while Singh absconded. He was arrested Nov 24.
“We administered him (Singh) some medicines when he complained of a chest pain on Nov 27 and referred him to the civil hospital the next day,” jail doctor R.B. Lal told reporters here.
However, Singh’s condition turned serious Saturday night and the doctors of the civil hospital later declared him dead.
