Mamata to lead rally against illegal liquor Dec 30

Kolkata, Dec 22 (IANS) Days after West Bengal’s worst hooch tragedy, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will lead a rally from central Kolkata’s College Square Dec 30 to spread social awareness about the perils of consuming illegal liquor.
“I will be there in the rally. I want everybody to participate in this social movement against illegal hooch. I want intellectuals, journalists - everybody to take part,” Banerjee told media persons here Thursday.
The rally will end at the base of Gandhi statue in the Maidan area.
At least 171 people - mostly masons, labourers and hawkers - perished after consuming spurious liquor at shanties near Sangrampur railway station of South 24 Parganas district Dec 13-14.
The chief minister said massive raids to demolish and dismantle hooch dens were on through the state.
