Kolkata, Nov 14 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee merrily chatted with school kids while legendary magician P.C. Sorcar (Jr.) showed magic tricks as the city celebrated Children’s Day Monday.
Several children of a city school spent some time with Banerjee at her office in The Writers’ Buildings which houses the state secretariat.
Banerjee also paid floral tribute to the country’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 122nd birth anniversary. The day is celebrated as Children’s Day across the country.
Magic icon Sorcar showed some of his tricks and educated school children on juvenile diabetes at a city hospital.
National award winning Bengali actor Prasenjit Chatterjee and actress June Malia celebrated the day with children at the Kolkata Film Festival.
“When you mix up with children you too become a child. I love playing with kids. I can spend my whole life playing with them,” said Chatterjee.
Noted fashion designer Agnimitra Paul participated in ’sit and draw’ contest with nearly 50 kids.
Earlier, city’s Don Bosco school organised a cultural programme for under-privileged children to celebrate the day.
