Maldivian president arrives in Colombo

Colombo, Jan 2 (IANS) Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed and his wife arrived in Colombo Friday on a three-day official visit.President Mahinda Rajapaksa received his Maldivian counterpart at the airport, where he was given a full military guard of honour.

President Nasheed will be holding talks on bilateral issues relating to trade, commerce and cultural affairs with Rajapaksa and Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama during his stay in Colombo.

Nasheed was elected to office at a landmark presidential election in October last year. This is his maiden visit to Sri Lanka as the Maldivian President.
