Malaysian golf: Aditi, Trishul win medals; India team title
September 16th, 2011 - 8:31 pm ICT by IANSPetaling Jaya, Sep 16 (IANS) India won the team title, while Aditi Ashok finished second overall among girls and Trishul Chinappa came second in the boys U-18 at the rain-hit 100Plus Malaysian Open Junior golf at the Saujana Golf and Country Club in Subang Thursday. Aditi also topped the U-14 girls section.
India finished a whopping 17 shots clear of the second-placed Indonesian team, even as hosts Malaysia, who looked good for a silver were disqualified as one of their players signed a wrong card. The team event was fought over two rounds, while the individual honours were decided over three rounds.
In the team event, Chinappa’s 77-76 and Aditi’s 73-75 did the trick for India, as the second and third rounds were played on the same day. The second day was badly hit by rain.
Bangalore golfer Aditi, just 13 years of age, had one of the only two eagles in the tournament. Aditi, who recently topped the field in a pro event, even while being an amateur, added 76 in the final round after first two rounds of 73 and 75. Eventual champion Dottie Ardina, winner of the Usha Queen Sirikit Cup earlier this year, shot 81 in the third round, but still held on as a winner on account of her earlier rounds of 67 and 72 for a total of 220. Aditi finished four shots behind Dottie. Aditi, however, topped the U-14 section.
Among boys, Chinappa shot a third round of 74 to go with 77 and 76 to total 227, five behind Malaysian winner Jeremiah Kim (69-78-75). Malaysia’s Muhammad Azry Asyraf Noor Azam claimed the overall title.
