Chennai, Jan 23 (IANS) Indian boys finished with a silver medal as Malaysia stamped their dominance by completing a clean sweep of the titles in the team championship of the 14th Asian Junior Championship here Friday.Indian girls won the bronze in the team championship.
In the boys final, Malaysia, who earlier in the week had won both the boys and girls singles titles, proved a step too quick for India although Ravi Dixit took Kamran Khan to four games in the second match.
The Indian girls, who lost to Hong Kong 2-0 in the playoff for third and fourth positions, were awarded a bronze medal as per tournament regulations.
Boys Final: Malaysia beat India 2-0 (Ivan Yuen bt Aditya Jagtap 11-4, 11-2, 11-6; Kamran Khan bt Ravi Dixit (Ind) 11-7, 8-11, 11-6, 11-8).
For 3-4 places: Hong Kong beat Korea 2-0 (Leo Au bt Seung Woo Jin 11-4, 11-4, 11-6; Nelson Chan bt Won Suk Choi 11-8, 11-2, 11-3).
Girls Final: Malaysia beat Korea 2-0 (Low Wee Wern bt Sun Mi Song 11-8, 11-2, 11-2; Low Wee Nee Ji-Hyun Lee 11-4, 11-4, 11-7).
For 3-4 places: Hong Kong beat India 2-0 (Tsz Ling Liu bt V. Anwesha Reddy 7-11, 11-8, 9-11, 13-11; Tsz Wing Tong bt Anaka Alankamony 11-1, 11-5, 16-14).
The final positions:
Boys: 1. Malaysia; 2. India; 3.Hong Kong; 4. Korea; 5. Iran, 6.Qatar, 7.Japan, 8.Sri Lanka, 9. Chinese Taipei and 10. China.
Girls: 1.Malaysia; 2.Korea, 3.Hong Kong, 4.India, 5.Singapore, 6.Sri Lanka, 7.Japan, 8.China and 9. Iran.
