Major fire in Punjab godown
April 30th, 2011 - 12:36 am ICT by IANSLalru (Punjab), April 29 (IANS) A major fire broke down in the godown of Oswal Denim Limited, a unit of the Nahar group, here Friday night, the police said.
According to officials, the reason behind the fire was yet to be ascertained and the fire brigade was struggling to control the flames.
“Fire tenders from all the neighbouring towns like Dera Bassi, Rajpura and Chandigarh have been called to control the fire. The flames are spreading very fast due to the presence of highly combustible material in the godown. The reason behind the fire has not been ascertained so far,” said Dera Bassi fire officer Avtar Singh.
Godown manager O.P. Verma said: “Raw material like pure cotton was kept in the godown. We have suffered loss worth several lakhs of rupees and we would evaluate it tomorrow morning.”
Lalru town, in Mohali district of Punjab, is around 20 km from state capital Chandigarh.
