Mahindra, Churchill win Federation Cup league matches

Kolkata, Dec 5 (IANS) Mahindra United sparkled in the second half to prevail 3-0 over Hindusthan Aeronautics Limited, while Churchill Brothers edged past Mohammedan Sporting 2-1 in group B league matches of the 30th Federation Cup Friday.Edeh Chidi found the target twice and Bhola Prasad chipped in with another strike for Mahindra in the one sided game at the Vidyasagar Krirangan in Barasat, 30 km from here.

After a goalless first half, the winners drew first blood in the 50th minute, when Steven Dias’s curling flag kick was headed into the net by Chidi.

Chidi stole the limelight again nine minutes later, capitalising on a HAL defensive error. Defender Sushanth Mathew moved up, and addressed a floater to Chidi, who surprisingly headed in absolutely unchallenged.

Mahindra added to the scoreline some time later, as Chidi set up substitute Bhola Prasad, who went for the kill without any hiccups.

The second game played under lights, saw Okoli Odafa score both the goals for Churchill, who had to play 87 minutes of the match with ten men after their custodian Arindam Bhattacharya was red carded for bringing down a goal-bound Vimal Pariyar.

Jothi Kumar struck the reducer for Sporting.
