Maharashtra to give Rs.500,000 to wrestler Sushil Kumar
August 20th, 2008 - 9:22 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Aug 20 (IANS) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh Wednesday announced a reward of Rs.500,000 to wrestler Sushil Kumar, who bagged a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics.In a statement congratulating Kumar, Deshmukh said the wrestler has created Indian sports history by bagging the medal and “we are proud of his achievement”.
Deshmukh said that prior to Kumar, Maharashtra’s wrestler, late Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav of Karad district, had bagged a bronze medal at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics.
Sushil Kumar won the bronze medal in men’s freestyle 66 kg by defeating Leonid Spiridonov of Kazakhstan.
