Maharashtra NCC bags PM’s banner trophy 15th time

Mumbai, Jan 29 (IANS) The Maharashtra National Cadet Corps (NCC) has bagged the Prime Minister’s Banner Trophy as Champion Directorate for the 15th time in 21 years.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh presented the trophy to the Maharashtra Directorate Saturday evening after the NCC rally in New Delhi.
A girl, Aneri R. Desai from the Maharashtra Directorate, bagged the best cadet honour in the Junior Wing Girls. Seventeen NCC Directorates from all over India and 97 foreign cadets took part.
The best cadet award went to Junior Division Boys’ M. Parasuram of Tamil Nadu, Pudducherry and Andaman and Nicobar NCC Directorate.
The best cadet Senior Division (army) was bagged by Anshuman Magal, best cadet Senior Division (navy) went to Murli Krishnan T.P., best cadet Senior Division (air) to Mehrab Kaizad Bhaya and best cadet Senior Wing Girls to Sargeant G. Vaishali.
In his address, Manmohan Singh lauded the NCC for its noble contribution towards empowering the youth, disaster management mitigation, environment conservation, and community development.
The rally was attended by Defence Minister A.K. Antony, Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallam Raju, Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma and the three commanders of the army, navy and air force.
