The bench had reserved its judgement Oct 7 after hearing a batch of petitions filed by the advocates associations and police officials.
In its decision Thursday, the bench held that the police attack was an assault on the judiciary and ordered disciplinary action against former city police commissioner and the current Additional Director General of Police, K. Radhakrishnan, and three other senior officials - A.K. Viswanathan, M. Ramasubramani, and Premanandan.
The bench had also ordered the state government to pay the court Rs.5.8 million as compensation for property damage in the court due to the lathi charge by the police, while permitting criminal cases against the advocates to be proceeded with.
The court ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to complete its enquiry and submit its report in three months.
