June 10th, 2011 - 11:57 pm ICT by IANSChennai, June 10 (IANS) In a major setback for Tamil Nadu’s AIADMK government, the Madras High Court Friday stayed an amendment to the Tamil Nadu Uniform System of School Education Act that deferred the implementation of a uniform syllabus for school students.
Disposing a batch of petitions, the court said the government can conduct detailed study of a common syllabus and textbooks.
The state government June 7 amended the Tamil Nadu Uniform System of School Education Act, deferring the implementation of uniform school syllabus.
The court ordered the government to implement the uniform system of school education this academic year and suggested the government could delete or modify the syllabus contents.
Citing the Rs.200 crore spent on printing text books the court said the government can revise the syllabus.
