Bhopal, Sep 18 (IANS) Three girls burnt alive their 13-year-old schoolmate in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district, the police said Thursday. The incident occurred Wednesday in Satpada Sarai village. Nidhi while returning from school saw three girls - two of Class 7 and one of Class 9 - beating a girl studying in the same school.

“When she intervened, she drew the ire of her schoolmates,” a police official said.

Irked over her intervention, the trio started beating up Nidhi. She, however, managed to escape and ran towards her house.

The three schoolgirls followed Nidhi to her residence and finding her alone, poured kerosene on her and burnt her alive.

With 90 percent burns, she was rushed to the district hospital where she succumbed to her injuries Thursday.

Nidhi mentioned the names of the three girls in the statement to the police.

“We have registered cases against them,” Vidisha Police Superintendent R.L. Prajapati told IANS.
