Lovers attempt suicide after parents’ disapproval
April 14th, 2011 - 11:21 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 14 (IANS) A young couple attempted suicide after their parents disapproved of their relationship, police said Thursday. Both are in hospital in a critical condition.
Kushum, 18, and Ravi Kumar, 26, were having an affair for the past two years, but the girl was being forced to get married to another man in May, said Deputy commissioner of Police O.P. Mishra.
“Kushum drank acid after a heated argument with her parents. She attempted suicide at her home in Kondli area in east Delhi Thursday morning,”
Hearing the news of Kushum’s suicide attempt, Ravi Kumar, who works for a mobile company, consumed poison at his house in the same area in the afternoon.
Both were taken to Lal Bahadur Hospital, where doctors said their condition is critical.
“We have quizzed their parents and neighbours,” said Mishra.
