Look beyond national interests, Ban to G20
October 18th, 2011 - 12:49 am ICT by IANSBern, Oct 17 (IANS) UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Monday urged G20 leaders to look beyond domestic and regional interests and come up with actionable plans to save the world from yet another economic crisis.
Ban made the appeal at a joint press conference with Swiss President and Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey in Bern, just two weeks before a G20 Summit in Cannes, Xinhua reported.
“To do business as usual, or just looking at their own domestic economic issues as usual will not give any answers to the current very serious international economic crisis,” Ban said.
He also demanded G20 leaders act with “a sense of flexibility and compromise” and to come up with actionable plans.
Ban was on a working visit to Bern where he attended the inaugural ceremony of the 125th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
