New Delhi, April 28 (IANS) Two days after he took over as the officiating president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Vijay Kumar Malhotra has set things in motion. A series of meetings will be held to take up all issues which need immediate attention.

The first in the series is on May 24 with all the sports federations whose athletes are going to take part in the 2012 London Olympics.

After the stupendous show at the 2008 Beijing Games, where India won a historic gold and two bronze, Malhotra now wants the athletes to better this at London.

With 456 days left for the London Games, Malhotra has called a meeting of the federations May 24, on the sidelines of the executive board meeting at the IOA headquarters.

“I have called for a meeting of all the sports federation on May 24 when we will discuss our plans for the London Olympics. We have nearly a year to prepare for the Olympics,” Malhotra told IANS.

“We have chart out a plan for all the disciplines, where we are expected to win medals. HOpefully in London we should go a step forward,” he added.

Malhotra took over as the “officiating president” to fill the vacuum created by the arrest of incumbent Kalmadi under the constitutional provisions of the apex body of Indian sport.

Kalmadi, former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman, was arrested Monday by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for awarding a Swiss firm a contract for timekeeping and scoring equipment for the 2010 Commonwealth Games at an inflated rate of Rs 141 crore.
