Locals attack police team with acid
September 27th, 2010 - 7:26 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Sep 27 (IANS) Five policemen received multiple burn injuries when a group of locals, including women, threw acid at them in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district Monday, an official said.
The team of eight to ten policemen went to Noorbasti area Monday afternoon to resolve a land dispute between two groups there. While the team was making efforts to solve the dispute through talks, members of one of the groups threw acid at the police team.
“Five policemen suffered multiple burn injuries and are being treated at a hospital. They are out of danger,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Awaneesh Mishra told reporters in Saharanpur, some 450-km from here.
Police have detained nine people, including six women, for the acid attack.
