Chandigarh, May 19 (IANS) A court in Mohali Tuesday rejected the transit bail plea of Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra’s father A.S. Bindra, who was arrested last week for over Rs.90 million (Rs.9 crore) fraud and is under treatment in a Chandigarh hospital after he complained of chest pain.
Bindra’s transit bail application was rejected by Additional Sessions judge S.K. Garg of a local court in Mohali, Punjab, around 10 km from here.
“We had moved a transit bail application in the court Saturday that was rejected today (Tuesday). We had appealed on the ground that Bindra is not medically fit. We had also requested to grant us permission to take Bindra in our own ambulance to Delhi to appear in the trial court,” Hirdey Pal Singh, defence lawyer, told IANS here.
Bindra was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) here in Sector 32 Thursday, immediately after his arrest by a special team of the Economics Offence Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police, after he complained of chest pain.
However, doctors referred him to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here Saturday.
Manju Wadwalkar, official spokesperson of PGIMER told IANS: “Bindra had acute pain in the abdomen and chest. He is still unfit. Doctors have done various medical tests to ascertain the disease and we are waiting for the reports to come.”
Bindra, an industrialist, is accused of cheating Apple Finance of Rs.43.1 million and IndusInd Bank of Rs.50 million. He was said to have obtained loans on the basis of forged documents and reportedly issued post-dated cheques, which later bounced.
The senior Bindra had taken the loans for his company Punjab Meats Limited. He has also been accused of having sold the land that had been mortgaged to the bank against the loan amount.
