Loan for Tirupur’s effluent treatment plants
December 16th, 2011 - 5:15 pm ICT by IANSChennai, Dec 16 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has ordered release of a Rs.127.40 crore interest-free loan for modernisation of 15 common effluent treatment plants in and around the hosiery town of Tirupur.
The interest-free loan would enable the effluent treatment plants install modern equipments in order to achieve zero-effluent discharge, said an official statement here Friday.
In February this year, the Madras High Court ordered the closure of 754 dyeing units in and around Tirupur, around 400 km from here, as they were polluting the Noyyal river and farmlands.
The closure of dyeing units resulted in large-scale job losses.
