Lizzie Miller: The Plus Sized Model Featured In “Glamour”

Lizzie Miller is the plus sized model who is featured on the pages of the present issue of the “Glamour” magazine and by the looks of it, the curvy lady has already made quite an impact on the readers. This is not the maiden appearance for the magazine by this naturally curvaceous 20 year old model, she has appeared once more previously.
Taking technicalities in to consideration, it can be said that Miller is not actually plus sized, she just somewhere midway between size 12 to 14. However, it can be assumed that she is not a part of the modeling world, which requires the standard waif thin apparitions and does not have much preference for plus sized women.
Miller has expressed that she is extremely grateful to the magazine and the readers for the support they have shown towards her. Miller’s projection of her average and curvy body (unlike the razor thin regular models) on the glamorous pages of the magazine, have drawn a lot of attention to her and she as well as the magazine have got a lot of praise for the daring feat.
Lizzie has said, “I’ve been that girl, flipping through magazines trying to find just one person who looked a little bit like me. And when I didn’t find it I would start to think there’s something wrong with the way I looked. When J. Lo and Beyonce came out and were making curves sexy, I started to accept myself more. Its funny, but just seeing them look and feel sexy enabled me to do the same.” Miller echoes the thought of such other millions of women worldwide who fail to gain acceptance because of the contrary image that is portrayed by the waif thin models.

“It can be said…”? It IS said, she is not plus sized at all! She is AVERAGE sized. This seems like a poorly disguised insult to average women, calling size 12 plus. And it’s even worse of an insult to bigger women. This isn’t any better than just ignoring the average size, now they’re blatantly labeling it.

Its problematic that a role model looks as unfit as this. Normal for a woman her age should be and hopefully is a more toned, slimmer and fit appearance. I am not saying that everyone should be skinny, but defining chubby as normal is not the way to go.

The reaction to this photo just proves how body-focused our society has become… It is pathetic! Who cares? As a woman, I dont need to see my reflection in a magazine..I am happy with the way I look..I really think that women are so insecure and unhappy about their bodies in our society.. It is very sad.
