Live bombs recovered in Chhattisgarh
June 27th, 2011 - 11:13 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, June 27 (IANS) At least seven live bombs were found Monday by a joint search team of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Chhattisgarh Police in a Maoist-dominated forested region, police said.
The bombs were found in state’s restive Bastar region’s Kanker district, a day after two BSF men were killed by Maoists in a gun battle.
The joint team of the BSF and the District Force (DF) detected at least seven bombs in a forested stretch that were most probably kept for targeting jawans who routinely visit the area for search operations, officials here at police headquarters told IANS. The bombs were later defused.
Chhattisgarh’s sprawling 40,000 sq km Bastar region that includes Kanker district, is a Maoist hotbed since late 1980s.
