‘Little Zizou’, ‘Firaaq’ nominated in multiple categories at AFFF
December 4th, 2008 - 2:18 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 4 (IANS) Screenwriter Sooni Taraporevala’s “Little Zizou” and actress Nandita Das’ directorial debut “Firaaq” have been nominated for multiple awards at the Asian Festival of 1st Films (AFFF) that kickstarted in Singapore Thursday.The AFFF, in its fourth year now, celebrates and awards first-time filmmakers.
“Little Zizou”, a comedy about two battling Mumbai families who finally come to terms has been nominated for best producer, best director, best male actor and best female actor awards.
“Firaaq”, which has already visited several international film festivals including the Toronto Film Festival, is based on the 2002 Godhra incident in Gujarat, will be competing in best director and best screenplay categories.
Apart from these two films, filmmaker Farhan Akhtar is competing in the best actor category for his acting debut “Rock On!” and Atul Pandey’s box-office dud “Summer 2007” is competing in the best script category.
“I am delighted with the range and quality of films that have come this year. Over 600 films and documentaries from 26 countries have posed an incredible channel with a number of excellent films in all categories,” said festival director Sanjoy Roy.
Apart from India, films from countries like Australia, China, Iran, Israel, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore are participating in the festival.
The films will be screened at Golden Village (Vivo City) and The Arts House in Singapore.
The grand finale will be Dec 10.
