Light practice session for Messi and Co.

Kolkata, Sep 3 (IANS) A day after carving out a 1-0 win over Venezuela in a FIFA Official friendly here, the Lionel Messi-led Argentina had a light practice session at the Salt Lake Stadium Saturday.

World’s highest rated footballer Messi, who played a key role in the Argentine win Friday night, spent about half on hour on the turf starting with some side stretching.

Appearing to be in a relaxed mood, he played some one-touch passes with his teammates before returning to the dressing room.

The players who were on the reserve bench Friday played a game over half the ground.

The Argentines, who are slated to play another friendly opposite Nigeria in Dhaka Tuesday, have decided to stay on in the city till Monday to fine-tune their preparation for the game.

“We had received a request from the Argentine team management that they want to lengthen their stay in Kolkata. They have liked the location of the hotel which is so close to the (Salt Lake) stadium, which is their practice venue and where they also played Friday night,” said event promoters Celebrity Management Group CEO Dharamdas Pandey.

He said the Argentines have also liked the venue and new coach Alejandro Sabella wanted to hold practice sessions here before flying over to Dhaka.

The technical staff and coaching support team will leave for Dhaka Sunday morning.
