Lifer attempts suicide inside jail
April 4th, 2010 - 8:28 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, April 4 (IANS) A man serving a life sentence tried to commit suicide by setting himself afire in the Alipore Central Jail here Sunday, police said.
Sajal Barui was rescued by the jail officials and he escaped unhurt.
“It seems that he tried to set himself on fire. But we have rescued him unhurt. He has been kept in his cell and is doing fine,” West Bengal Inspector General of Prisons B.D. Sharma said.
Barui was awarded a life sentence for murdering his father, stepmother, and stepbrother. He committed the murders at the age of 16, on Nov 22, 1993, in Kolkata.
