Libyan diplomats in India stand up for revolution
February 26th, 2011 - 12:17 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS) Days after the Libyan ambassador to India resigned to protest the violent crackdown by Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi on pro-democracy demonstrators, the diplomats of the country’s embassy here rallied in support of the agitators in the North African country.”We show our sympathy for the souls of our martyrs, who died for the freedom of Libya. We announce our full alignment for the people’s revolution of February 17,” Libyan embassy said in a statement to Al Jazeera which was signed by all the diplomats of the embassy.
“We announce that we represent the Libyan people and its civil establishments and we do not represent the former regime, which violated the religion and tradition and international conventions and human rights,” the statement added.
The embassy’s diplomats underlined that the blood of the Libyan people is very precious and that they “would not bargain it at any cost and the revolution will be succeed against the tyrant”.
Protesting against the Libyan government’s violent crackdown on demonstrators, Libya’s ambassador to India Ali al-Essawi quit his post a few days ago and called for Gaddafi’s ouster.
