Leopard attacks four in Uttar Pradesh
March 3rd, 2009 - 1:35 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, March 3 (IANS) A leopard that attacked and injured four people has triggered panic in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, an official said Tuesday.
The leopard strayed into Jagtapur village, adjoining the Katarniyaghat forest reserve, and has mauled four people since Monday morning, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) R.K. Singh told IANS on phone.
Of the four injured, the condition of a five-year-old boy is serious. He is being treated at a government hospital in Bahraich, about 270 km form here.
The boy’s family will be given Rs.10,000 as compensation, Singh said.
He added that an operation is underway to drive the leopard back into the forest.
