Jalpaiguri (West Bengal), Oct 12 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Wednesday asked the central government to not take interest for the loan taken by the previous Left Front government for the next three years.
Lashing out at the Left Front government for leaving behind a debt of Rs.230,000 crore, Banerjee said here: “We are giving away 87 percent of the total state income for paying the interests of the loan incurred by the last state government. It is really tough to even pay government employees from the remaining 13 percent money.”
“I have already requested the centre to stop taking interest for the loan taken by the previous government for the next three years. Just imagine, we are suffering because of the loan taken by the previous government,” she said.
Banerjee came here Tuesday night after her two-day visit to Darjeeling where she announced wide-ranging sops and promised all help to a proposed autonomous hill development body.
