Left Front protests diesel price hike move
May 17th, 2011 - 11:28 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, May 17 (IANS) West Bengal’s opposition Left front Tuesday announced it would hit the streets if the union government raised the prices of diesel, kerosene and cooking gas.
The empowered group of ministers on fuel prices in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is scheduled to meet this week and decide on a likely revision of fuel prices apart from petrol, which has already been hiked by Rs.5 a litre by the oil marketing companies.
“Left Front will strongly and extensively protest against any such measure which is anti-people. The day it is announced we will hit the streets,” said Left Front chairman Biman Bose here.
Briefing mediapersons after a meeting of Left Front partners, Bose said a protest meeting will be held towards the month end at the city’s central hub of Dharmatolla.
