Ranchi, Dec 10 (IANS) A lawyer was Wednesday arrested in Jharkhand’s Palamau district for alleged links to Maoist rebels, police said. Satyendra Kumar Chaube was held in Palamau when he went to meet a Maoist rebel in jail. Police claim that Chaube is a senior member of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist).

“The arrested advocate is a resident of Chhattisgarh’s Ambikapur district. He is wanted by the Chhattisgarh police in many cases. He was staying in a rented house in Palamau for more than four months. He was arrested when he went to meet a Maoist activist,” a police official said over telephone from Palamau.

“Chaube was involved in helping arrested rebels get freed on bail,” the official said.

The lawyer will be handed over to the police in Chhattisgarh, he added.
