Lawyer held for raping client
June 2nd, 2011 - 10:39 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 2 (IANS) An advocate was arrested for allegedly raping his client repeatedly for two years as a punishment for a bounced cheque, Delhi Police said Thursday.
Bhupender Singh, 61, was representing the 35-year-old victim in a case of cheating filed against her own husband.
The victim, a resident of Rani Bagh in north Delhi, has alleged that Singh continuously raped her between 2004 and 2006, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Meenu Chaudhary.
According to police, the victim, who is a home maker, had engaged Singh to fight her case in 2004.
But Singh started sexually exploiting the victim when in 2006 a cheque that he got from her bounced.
“He began calling her first to his chambers and then later to his residence on the pretext of lowering the fee and forced her into performing sexual favours for her,” said the police officer.
