Law catches up with blackmailing duo in BhopalJune 21st, 2009 - 5:25 pm ICT by IANS
Bhopal, June 21 (IANS) A youth and his girlfriend, who allegedly blackmailed people by levelling eve teasing charges against them, were arrested in this Madhya Pradesh capital, police said Sunday
“The couple - Girish Dariyani and Sheetal Tomar - used to cheat people and mint money from them by levelling charges of eve-teasing against them,” a police official said.
The case came to light when Manoj Kumar Pardashiyani filed a complaint saying that he had given Rs.2 lakh to the couple to buy a vehicle. He said that neither the vehicle was delivered nor the money returned.
“On the other hand, Girish is threatening me that he will send his girlfriend to lodge a complaint of eve teasing against me if I insisted on demanding the cash back,” Manoj mentioned in his complaint.
The police immediately registered a case and nabbed the duo. The investigating officials maintained that the duo seemed to be inspired by the Hindi blockbuster “Bunti aur Babli”.
During interrogation, Sheetal who hails from Indore and Girish, a resident of the Bairagarh township in Bhopal, have confessed to a number of similar crimes committed in the past, said police.
According to police, the couple would dash their vehicle against the car of rich people and demand compensation. In some cases, Sheetal lured guys and demanded hefty amount from them the moment they started calling her on phone.
“The girl used to lure people and once she succeeded in her design, the couple used to blackmail the target. Several such cases have come to light in the past few months after which a team was constituted to nab the culprits,” Bhopal Superintendent of Police Jaideep Prasad said.
