Law against honour killings soon: Moily (Lead)
June 23rd, 2010 - 9:39 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 23 (IANS) The central government will soon come out with a law against honour killings and a draft has already been prepared, Union Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily said Wednesday.
“The home ministry has already drafted a bill. It has been vetted and when implemented, it will put an end to such kind of killings,” Moily told reporters.
Several incidents of honour killings have been reported from Haryana. Three back-to-back cases in Delhi recently stunned the residents of the national capital.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has asked the police to be alert and deal such matters promptly.
“I am very concerned and worried,” Dikshit said.
A couple, who had married four years ago against the wishes of the girl’s parents, was found murdered in north Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area.
Kuldeep, 26, was found shot dead in his car Sunday evening and his wife Monica, 23, died after being attacked by a sharp object at their house.
Shobha, a cousin of Monica, was also found murdered Tuesday.
In another incident, a 19-year-old girl and her boyfriend were electrocuted to death in the city last week as their families objected to their relationship.
