Landmines recovered in Chhattisgarh
April 28th, 2011 - 12:58 am ICT by IANSRaipur, April 27 (IANS) Two landmines were recovered Wednesday from forested locations in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bastar region, police sources said here.
A 15-kg landmine, buried in a road in Palnar area of Dantewada district, was recovered while another 5-kg landmine was found from Cherpal village in Bijapur district.
Police said both the landmines were placed to target security forces who routinely search the area for Maoist rebels.
Maoists have a virtual monopoly in interiors of Chhattisgarh’s sprawling Bastar region comprising five districts - Bijapur, Dantewada, Bastar, Narayanpur and Kanker.
Sources say that rebels have mined up to 25,000 sq km area in Bastar to prevent police and paramilitary troopers from dismantling the Maoist terror infrastructure.
