Land grab row turns violent in Patna, one dead
April 5th, 2011 - 11:25 pm ICT by IANSPatna, April 5 (IANS) Three people, including a woman, were shot here Tuesday as a land dispute between a builder and a group of people, mostly Dalits, turned violent, police said. The woman died of her injuries, while the two other injured are battling for their lives at a local hospital.
Police said that the henchmen of the builder opened fire at people protesting against their bid to grab a plot of land in Jagdeopath locality here.
Police have arrested four people, including the builder, who was also thrashed by the angry protesters.
According to the police, the people claimed that the plot of land eyed by the builder was a graveyard and the land had been allotted by the government many years back.
Five policemen, including the Patna Airport Police Station chief and three constable, were suspended for their failure to control the violence.
