The victim, identified as Mercedes Kohmdram, from Manipur, hanged herself in her hostel room at around 8.30 a.m. She was a third year student and stayed alone in the room.
“One of her friends knocked on her room door several times in the morning to wake her up. When there was no response, her friend reported the matter to the hostel warden. They broke open the door and found Mercedes hanging by a stole,” said a police officer.
The police said a suicide note was recovered from the room.
“In her note, she said she had had a fight with her boyfriend and he was not taking her phone calls or coming to see her. So she was committing suicide,” the officer said, adding that her parents had been informed.
