New Delhi, March 26 (IANS) Amid differences over issues, India and China will review bilateral ties and set dates for the next round of talks on the boundary dispute when External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna goes to Beijing April 7.
This will be his first bilateral visit to China since he became the foreign minister in May last year and his first trip after relations came under strain last year over a host of issues including reported intrusion by Chinese troops and Beijing’s claims over Arunachal Pradesh.
Krishna will call on his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi and discuss, among other things, intensification of bilateral trade that has crossed $40 billion.
They are likely to set dates for the 14th round of talks between special representatives of the two countries to resolve their boundary dispute that sparked a war in 1962.
Krishna’s visit will also set the stage for President Pratibha Patil’s trip to Beijing later this year.
