‘Knifer gang’ busted in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, April 19 (IANS) Four men wanted in over a dozen cases of armed robberies and murders, belonging to what the police described as the ‘knifer gang’ were arrested Sunday, officials said.
The gang which operated in Vaishali, Vasundhara, Kaushambi and Indirapuram areas of Ghaziabad, adjoining east Delhi, specialised in carrying out their crimes with the help of knives and were hence called the ‘knifer gang’, police said.

The police arrested Sumit Pal, Jitendra Sharan, Veer Pal and Monu at about 12.30 p.m. Sunday from Vaishali area of Ghaziabad, police said.

“We received over two dozen complaints from people at Link Road and Indirapuram alone that they were terrorised and robbed by persons at the point of a knife,” Senior Superintendent of Police Akhil Kumar said.

In the last 15 days alone, the three men executed two murders and three robberies in Indirapuram while two robberies were committed by them under Link Road station area, police said.

The police recovered two motorcycles and six mobile phones from their possession, the police added.
