Kin of man who died due to hospitals’ laxity get relief
January 13th, 2011 - 12:11 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 12 (IANS) The Delhi government was Wednesday directed by the Delhi High Court to pay Rs.3 lakh as interim compensation to the kin of a vegetable vendor who was injured in a road accident and died in an ambulance after being refused admission by one hospital after another.
“We are inclined to direct the government to give Rs.3 lakh as interim compensation to the kith and kin of the victim within four weeks,” said the division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna.
The court also accepted the submission made by government’s standing counsel Najmi Waziri that two doctors who had refused to treat Rambhor, 40, have been suspended by the hospitals.
The court had taken note of media reports about the death of Rambhor after he was hit by a vehicle Nov 29 last year at Azadpur Mandi in north Delhi.
The victim was first rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital in Jahangirpuri in north Delhi. But the hospital refused to admit him as there was no intensive care bed available.
From there, he was moved to a trauma centre near Kashmere Gate where he was again refused admission as no ultrasound facility was available.
A Janakpuri resident, Rambhor was then taken to Lok Nayak Hospital (LNH) which also refused admission saying his documents were not in place.
The patient died in the ambulance parked on the premises of LNH without any medical attention.
