Kidney kingpin gets bail in fake passport cases
March 5th, 2010 - 10:38 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, March 5 (IANS) A city court Friday granted bail to kidney racket kingpin Amit Kumar in three cases of obtaining passports on fake identity.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja allowed the plea of Kumar, who sought bail on the ground that he was not arrested during investigation in the cases registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation in 2008.
The court directed Kumar to furnish a personal and surety bond of Rs.50,000 each.
The court rejected the contention of the CBI, which opposed his plea, that the charges against him were grave.
Kumar, whose real name is Sanjay Raut, was arrested in Nepal in February 2008 after exposure of the racket running into crores of rupees about illegal kidney transplantation surgeries performed by him and others. He is also accused of securing passports from the regional passport office in the capital on fake identity in 1997.
But Kumar will not be walking free due to the several other cases against him across the country.
