Kenya’s Njoroge wins Buenos Aires marathon
October 10th, 2011 - 2:26 pm ICT by IANSBuenos Aires, Oct 10 (IANS) Kenyan runner Simon Kariuki Njoroge won the 27th Buenos Aires International Marathon with a record time of 2 hours, 10 minutes and 29 seconds.
Kariuki’ s fellow countrymen Chebet Ben Kipruto and Toni Kiprop came second and third, respectively, in the men’s category in which about 7,200 athletes, including 2,000 foreign athletes, ran along the streets of Argentina’s capital city, Xinhua reported.
In the women’s category, Argentine Andrea Graciano won with a record time of 2 hours, 46 minutes and 34 seconds, followed by her fellow countrywoman Karina Neipan in second place and Carmen Martinez from Peru in third place.
The best local athlete in the male category was Ulises Sanguinetti, who finished in the seventh position with a time of 2 hours and 20 minutes. He won the fourth place in 2010.
