According to lifeguards posted at the Ashwem beach, located 40 km from here, Daniel Yermakova, a Kazhakstan national has been missing ever since he was pulled away by powerful monsoon currents off the beach Friday afternoon.
A police official said that speedboats were pressed into service to look for the boy, but they were not able to trace the lad due to heavy currents. They fear he could have been drowned.
The state marine police are conducting search operations along with local lifeguards posted at Ashwem beach, officials said.
