New Delhi, May 24 (IANS) The trial of former Haryana minister Venod Sharma’s son Vikas Yadav and nephew Vishal Yadav for allegedly killing his daughter Bharti Yadav’s friend Nitish Katara took yet another curious turn Saturday. Prosecution witness Ajay Katara testified before a Delhi court the authenticity of the contents of a compact disc of an undercover investigation carried out by a newspaper showing him as a planted witness.
According to the Metro Now report, Ajay Katara had purportedly said he had never seen Vikas and Vishal Yadav taking away Nitish Katara from a marriage party in Ghaziabad on the fateful night of Feb 16, 2002 after which he was found murdered.
In an application to the court of Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur, Ajay Katara admitted to have used abusive language and made statements as shown in the CD.
He, however, added that he was tricked into making all these statements by his friend Subhash under the influence of liquor.
On the basis of the CD contents, counsel of Vikas and Vishal Yadav had filed an application in the court seeking prosecution of Ajay Katara for falsely deposing in the trial.
The judge was to deliver her ruling on the defence plea Saturday, but with Ajay Katara making an unscheduled disclosure in the court, the ruling was deferred to Monday.
Nitish Katara, son of a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by Vikas Yadav, his cousin Vishal Yadav and Sukhdev.
They resented Nitish’s alleged relationship with Vikas’s sister Bharati, according to the prosecution.
Nitish’s body was recovered from Khurja village in Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh.
