Kapadia is new chief justice of India (Lead)

New Delhi, May 12 (IANS) Justice Sarosh Homi Kapadia Wednesday took over as the 38th chief justice of India. He was administered the oath of the office by President Pratibha Patil.
“At a ceremony held at 9.30 a.m. Justice Kapadia was sworn in as the chief justice of India,” said a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
“He made and subscribed to the oath of office before the president,” the statement said.
Born Sep 29, 1947, only months after India’s independence, Chief Justice Kapadia was elevated to the Supreme Court Dec 18, 2003.
