Junior Fed Cup: Indian girls go down 1-2 to Thailand

New Delhi, April 27 (IANS) The Indian girls lost 1-2 to Thailand in a group B league match of the Asia-Oceania Junior Fed Cup under-16 tennis competition at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) here Wednesday.

India’s No.2 Snehadevi Reddy went down fighting to Nahathai Khuntaket 6-1, 6-7(8), 4-6 in the opening singles after a marathon 170-minute battle.

Tahira Bhatti then levelled the scores by defeating Kamonwan Buayam 6-3, 6-3 in the second singles match between the No.1 players.

Bhatti and Jasmine Kaur Bajaj then combined in the decisive doubles rubber but went down 6-4, 1-6, 4-6 to Kamonwan and Nahathai.

India now play Sri Lanka Thursday. The hosts were blanked 0-3 by second-seeded Australia on the first day Tuesday.
